Festive Season Treats Ecommerce Industry with Crores of Revenue

Reading Time: 2 minutes

E-tailers have gained gross merchandise value (GMV) worth $3 billion (Rs 19,000 crore) within the festive sale series conducted from September 29 to October 4, 2019.

The Asian & Indian Ecommerce market is witnessing a whooping surge of sales during festive season.  Ecommerce industry giants – Amazon & Flipkart dominated 90% of the market share during their sale campaigns. Flipkart witnessed 60-62 per cent standalone gross GMV. If other industry players like Myntra and Jabong are added, the percentage goes even beyond that.

What’s making Ecommerce industry so popular during festive season?

While people are busy preparing for occasion, stepping out in ruthless climate and getting caught in shopping mob on streets can be extremely tiring. On the other hand, finding out specifics shop to shop doesn’t seem a fair idea. However, given a chance of shopping through computer screens at heavy discounts without having to worry about exchange / return is surely not to get ignored. E-Tailers have seen year by year rise in sales through Tier 2 cities. One of the obvious reasons for this is shortage of time. Unlike old days or smaller towns where people are engaged into shopping and preparing for festivals beforehand, longer working hours and majority family members being unavailable have led to the growth of Ecommerce industry.

Now that we know, Ecommerce industry has definitely gained momentum from past few years, challenges that they have to face can be daunting. A customer arrived on the website, shopped for a particular item and checked out. Now here, the company XYZ will capture customer details through an email sent that has a receipt attached. The process so far is smooth. But, the company’s marketing and logistics team use separate software are disconnected from each other. In this case, the employer has to check inventory, check the item as sold and then the warehouse department can move ahead with packaging. Further to this, another employee will notify the confirmation to shipping company with tracking code. And as a final step, the marketing professional will use email marketing to retain the customer.

As soon as the customer checks out the warehouse department will receive and automated notification and the tracking code will be shared to the shipping department.
