Some users reported a Profit and Loss Account missing error in Sage X3 during the year-end closing process. While closing the year-end, your accounting setup must have a valid P&L account assigned. If it is not assigned or if it is not properly configured in your master record, you will get an error. The solution is straightforward: Assign the missing P&L account, or configure your master record properly.
Why is a P&L Account Statement Required in Sage X3?
First things first, why is a P&L account required in the first place?
The answer is simple: In India, companies incorporated under Indian law are required to prepare a Profit and Loss Account. Section 129(1) of Schedule III to the Companies Act, 2013, requires companies to present their Statement of Profit and Loss Account in accordance with the layout and general instructions specified therein. Therefore, your ERP software requires a mandatory P&L account to be assigned at year-end.
A P&L account contains various sections such as Revenue/ Income, Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), Operating Expenses, Operating Profit, and Net Income. It serves as an important component of your financial statements that helps you identify the business areas bringing in profits (or losses), analyse cost overheads, track inventory holding costs, and improve audit-readiness. Moreover, it is used by shareholders to directly evaluate your company’s profitability and understand their net earnings per share.
