What is e-Invoicing in the UAE?

e-Invoicing in the UAE is the electronic issuance, exchange, and reporting of invoice data in a specified format that enables automated invoice processing from accounting or ERP systems. The UAE Electronic Invoicing System is based on the Peppol framework and uses a decentralised Continuous Transaction Control and Exchange (DCTCE) model, commonly known as the 5-corner model.

According to the UAE Ministry of Finance, a valid e-invoice generated in PINT-AE XML format must be exchanged between a buyer and seller via an Accredited Service Provider (ASP) only and simultaneously reported to the UAE Federal Tax Authority (FTA). With our UAE e-invoicing add-on for Sage ERP, compliance with these mandates becomes simple and stress-free.

UAE e-Invoicing Compliance Requirements

The UAE e-invoicing compliance applies to entities carrying out in-scope business transactions, regardless of their VAT registration status.

Requirement What it involves
Applicable Transactions B2B and B2G business transactions, subject to specified exclusions
Document Types Tax invoices and credit notes
Invoice Format XML format based on the UAE PINT-AE standard
VAT Compliance Tax documents must contain the information required under applicable UAE VAT rules.
ASP Integration Invoice exchange and reporting via Accredited Service Provider
Invoice Validation Invoice data validated against applicable e-invoicing rules
Buyer-Seller Exchange Invoices exchanged between seller and buyer via their ASPs
FTA Reporting Required tax data reported electronically to the FTA
Invoice Status Message Level Status (MLS) communicates processing & validation outcomes
